The American Cancer Society and World Lung Foundation on Tuesday released their latest Tobacco Atlas, providing snapshots of the estimated impact of smoking on populations throughout the world, the Irish Medical Times writes (Cosgrave, 8/26).
APEIRON Biologics AG announced that it has entered into an exclusive option to license from the Cleveland Clinic a number of novel compounds. These compounds are currently in development at Cleveland Clinic as drug candidates for treatment of various cancers, designed to fight cancer based on stimulation of the immune system. In preclinical models, they have shown anti-cancer activity and a favourable toxicity profile as orally available agents.
A second amyloid may play a role in Alzheimer's disease, UC Davis researchers find. A protein secreted with insulin travels through the bloodstream and accumulates in the brains of individuals with type 2 diabetes and dementia, in the same manner as the amyloid beta (Αβ) plaques that are associated with Alzheimer's disease, a study by researchers with the UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center has found.
Personalized cancer therapies are on the horizon thanks to a new genomic cancer research partnership between the Gene Editing Institute of Christiana Care Health System's Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute and the biotechnology company NovellusDx.
