The Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) announced today that it has received the highest rating - four stars - from Charity Navigator, the nation's largest independent evaluator of charitable organizations.
A new study suggests that children with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) have poorer sleep and more daytime sleepiness in comparison to healthy children.
On July 1, 2010, Nature Journal, the weekly, international, interdisciplinary journal of science, published an article that unveils the most exciting genetic research on alopecia areata to date. Led by the National Alopecia Areata Foundation Scientific Advisory Council member Dr. Angela Christiano, and using cases from the National Alopecia Areata Registry, a team of investigators from Columbia University Medical Center have found eight genes that contribute to alopecia areata, one of which has a possible role in the onset of the disease.
When B lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell in the immune system geared for fighting diseases) turn cancerous, they become part of the problem, and need to be eliminated.
Massey University design graduate Leon Oliver's ‘Sentinel' is designed to protect a crew member who has fallen overboard at sea. The user can climb into a raft, which has been remotely deployed from the vessel by the victim using an electronic watch. The watch is also designed to activate an onboard alarm to alert the crew to the accident.
