The creation and use of information online and the widespread use of the Internet offer exciting new opportunities for patient care, but also require physicians to consider how to best protect patient interests and apply principles of professionalism to online settings, the American College of Physicians and the Federation of State Medical Boards said today in a newly released policy paper, "Online Medical Professionalism: Patient and Public Relationships."
A new drug called bumetanide, which is used to treat edema, shows promise in treating some symptoms of autism in young children, while not showing significant adverse effects. The study was published in January 2020 in the journal Translational Psychiatry.
A study by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore has found that as the type of COVID-19 misinformation rectified by Singapore's mainstream news media evolved over the course of the pandemic, the role played by the media in debunking those myths became increasingly important to citizens in the nation's fight to manage the outbreak.
Ontario's doctors are moving to dispel the common misconception that salon tanning beds are safer than the sun. Recently, the Ontario Medical Association adopted a policy calling for restrictions on the use of artificial tanning equipment, so that tanning beds cannot be used by those under 18 years of age.
