Three drugs, each of which works in a different way, are used in anti-platelet therapy to help prevent restenosis (the reclogging of blood vessels after they have been cleared with percutaneous coronary intervention or PCI) or thrombosis (obstruction of an artery or vein by a blood clot).
Our understanding of tumor biology has improved and continues to expand at a rapid pace, and this has opened new opportunities for cancer clinical trials, particularly for thoracic tumors. The identification and molecular alterations in the cancer and the possibility to specifically and selectively target them, has dramatically improved the treatment efficacy in patients with lung cancer.
One in three patients who die in the U.S. dies of sepsis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is one of the leading causes of death in intensive care units and, with an estimated price tag of $20 billion in 2011, the most expensive condition that hospitals treat.
