The boy suffered his first epileptic seizure at age four. Doctors tried medication and other treatments to control the seizures-the result of a low-grade brain tumor-but nothing worked.
A new study from the American Psychological Association has found that people may often lie in order to appear more truthful to others. This paradoxical study was published in the latest issue of the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General. The study was titled, "Lying to appear honest."
Rapid influenza diagnostic tests used in doctors' offices, hospitals and medical laboratories to detect H1N1 are virtually useless and could pose a significant danger to public health, according to a Loyola University Medical Center researcher.
"The Senate has done the right thing for the nation's health in confirming Dr. Regina Benjamin as our nation's 18th U.S. Surgeon General," said Dr. Jane L. Delgado, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, the nation's leading Hispanic health advocacy group. "As a woman in the field of health I am proud that she will become the third woman to serve as Surgeon General of the United States. She is a true inspiration to girls considering health and science careers."
Among a group of men who underwent coronary angiography and had a low serum testosterone level, the use of testosterone therapy was associated with increased risk of death, heart attack, or ischemic stroke, according to a study in the November 6 issue of JAMA.
