As the U.S. moves forward with health reform, health care purchasers are working to eliminate waste, overuse, and misuse in the health care system at the point of care. To that end, several of the nation's foremost quality and measurement organizations – Bridges to Excellence (BTE), the Leapfrog Group, and PROMETHEUS Payment® – announced their support of eValue8™, a program of the National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH).
"Educationally relevant health disparities" are key drivers of the achievement gap, "but they are largely overlooked," Charles Basch, the Richard March Hoe Professor of Health Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, said at a recent panel discussion at the College.
Johns Hopkins researchers have discovered a gene in fruit flies that helps certain specialized neurons respond more quickly to bright light.
Many breast cancer drugs block estrogen receptors inside cancer cells. Blocking the receptors early in disease progression staves off metastasis.
The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) commends the House of Representatives for including provisions intended to ease small business regulatory burdens as part of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009 (H.R. 4173) which passed today.
