Text message reminders are a low-cost effective strategy for increasing rates of influenza vaccination. A randomized controlled trial in Western Australia identified patients who were at high risk of serious influenza illness and had a mobile phone number on record in their physician's office.
Additionally, Governor Mark Warner has declared October 2004 Antibiotic Awareness Month in an effort to increase the public's knowledge about the growing problem of resistance to antibiotic medications.
Researchers found that CYFRA and change in levels of CYFRA were found to be reliable markers for response to chemotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in a study of 88 patients. Research presented in the April 2012 issue of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer's (IASLC) Journal of Thoracic Oncology shows that this marker can be used to determine whether or not a patient should continue a particular chemotherapy regimen.
Taking certain omega-3 fatty acid supplements during pregnancy can reduce the risk of childhood asthma by almost one third, according to a new study from the Copenhagen Prospective Studies on Asthma in Childhood (COPSAC) and the University of Waterloo.
While several COVID-19 vaccines have been approved to date, the constant evolution of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) receptor-binding domain (RBD) has challenged the efficacy of these vaccines.
