Chronic low back pain can limit everyday activities, including sex. New research presented today at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), found that 70 percent of patients consider sexual activity "relevant" to their life quality, and patients who receive surgical treatment for spinal spondylolisthesis (DS) and spinal stenosis (SS)-common degenerative conditions most often occurring in older adults-were twice as likely to report no pain during sex.
A study conducted by Children's Memorial Research Center reveals that African American infants are far more likely to die from sleep-related causes than any other ethnic group in Illinois.
New results support that treatment for hemorrhagic stroke can be improved by using medication to rapidly reduce blood pressure. Hemorrhagic stroke is a type of stroke that involves bleeding in the brain. About 35,000 patients a year in the United States have hemorrhagic stroke with corresponding high blood pressure.
People who have a stroke are more likely to be dependent if they are depressed, older or have other medical problems, according to a study published in the March 15, 2011, print issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
Bartonella bacteria are disease-causing, blood-borne pathogens found in various mammal species. A study in PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases by Hannah Frank and colleagues at Stanford University, California suggests that humans play an important role in disease risk, infection patterns, and distribution of Bartonella, advancing current understanding of Bartonella's evolutionary history and how the bacteria may be transmitted between humans and other animal species.
