Scientists from the UK and Belgium have found a way to communicate with brain damaged patients who appear to be in a vegetative state. Writing in The Lancet medical journal they describe how they measured electrical activity in the brain to detect consciousness. The technique, known as EEG or electroencephalogram, is painless and involves attaching electrodes to the head.
During the pandemic, it has become increasingly evident that people with cardiovascular disease and obesity are at a much higher risk of developing very severe, even fatal COVID-19 disease.
aTyr Pharma, Inc., a biotherapeutics company engaged in the discovery and development of Physiocrine-based therapeutics to address severe rare diseases, today announced that the first patient has been dosed in a newly initiated long term-safety extension study of Resolaris for adult patients with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), a rare and severe genetic myopathy for which there are currently no approved treatments.
