What if you could test for cocaine, opioids and marijuana as quickly as a breathalyzer identifies alcohol? A new, low-cost chemical sensing chip brings us one step closer to this technology, which has long been on the wish list of police officers and others looking to monitor drug use and curb dangerous driving.
In a new cohort study of patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a disease with a high recurrence rate, researchers at the Osaka City University Graduate School of Medicine reported that after receiving cancer treatment, the oral administration of direct-acting antivirals (DAA) reduces the risk of tumor progression following recurrence of the liver disease.
Tornier, Inc., a global leader in extremities and sports medicine orthopaedics, and LifeCell™ Corporation, a KCI Company, announced today the first 13 patients have been enrolled in a multi-center clinical trial to document the clinical value of Conexa™ Reconstructive Tissue Matrix for the surgical repair of large rotator cuff tears. Conexa™ is a porcine-derived tissue matrix with both biologic and mechanical properties that are important to support the repair of injured or surgically reconstructed soft tissue. Launched by Tornier for orthopaedic applications in October of 2008, Conexa™ has been used successfully in approximately 1,500 patients.
Chemical intolerance contributes to the illnesses of 1 in 5 patients but the condition seldom figures in their diagnosis, according to clinical research directed by a UT Medicine San Antonio physician.
United American Healthcare Corporation today announced that the Company has entered into an agreement with St. George Investments, LLC, under which St. George has agreed to withdraw its own slate of candidates for the UAHC Board of Directors and vote in favor of the candidates nominated by UAHC's Board at the Annual Meeting of Shareholders scheduled to be held on April 23, 2010.
