Today, the Canadian Diabetes Association released the findings from its Newfoundland and Labrador Diabetes Cost Model, stating that Newfoundland and Labrador currently has the highest rate of diabetes prevalence in Canada, with future forecasts continuing to grow at an alarming rate.
According to a new report by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), despite the debacle following the drug Vioxx which was withdrawn from the market two years ago, few lessons have been learned and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the U.S. still lacks the power and resources to adequately monitor the safety of newly-approved drugs.
MSD today announced that the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) adopted a positive opinion recommending the use of REMICADE (infliximab) in the treatment of severely active ulcerative colitis (UC) in pediatric patients ages 6 to 17 years, who have had an inadequate response to conventional therapy, including corticosteroids and 6-mercaptopurine or azathioprine, or who are intolerant to or have medical contraindications for such therapies.
Postmenopausal women who consumed sugar-sweetened beverages were more likely to develop the most common type of endometrial cancer compared with women who did not drink sugar-sweetened beverages, according to a study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.
