Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania filed a class action lawsuit in U.S. District Court today against the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare alleging multiple violations of federal law in how DPW provides services to deaf persons with intellectual disabilities.
Newly released research has linked higher patient satisfaction scores with greater healthcare costs and increased risk of mortality. Despite the growing reliance on satisfaction scores as a tool for evaluating physician performance, "research suggests a tenuous link between patient satisfaction and healthcare quality and outcomes," according to the study published online Feb. 13 in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
For many older adults, the aging process seems to go hand-in-hand with an annoying increase in clumsiness - difficulties dialing a phone, fumbling with keys in a lock or knocking over the occasional wine glass while reaching for a salt shaker.
Tolero Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a late clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing treatments for oncology and blood disorders, reported positive interim results from an ongoing, randomized Phase 2 clinical trial of its lead drug candidate, alvocidib, in combination with cytarabine plus mitoxantrone for previously untreated acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients.
The five-year survival rate for advanced-stage laryngeal cancer was higher than national levels in a small study at a single academic center performing a high rate of surgical therapy, including a total laryngectomy (removal of the voice box), to treat the disease, despite a national trend toward organ preservation, according to a report published online by JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
