Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceuticals Holding, Inc.,, the parent company of APP Pharmaceuticals, Inc., announced today that APP and other Fresenius Kabi companies have entered into license and settlement agreements with sanofi-aventis covering patents that apply to Eloxatin® (oxaliplatin injection and oxaliplatin for injection).
Cardiac experts at Rush University Medical Center are studying a new, minimally invasive procedure to treat leaky heart valves. Instead of open heart surgery, patients will undergo a less complex catheter-based procedure to treat mitral regurgitation, a serious heart disorder where blood leaks backwards toward the lungs with each heart beat.
As the country begins a new year and continues to contemplate major issues like financial recovery and nationwide healthcare, a new study released today by Royal Philips Electronics ( PHG, AEX: PHI) shows that three-quarters of Americans feel generally positive about their overall health and well-being. But a closer look shows that despite Americans' claims and culture of stalwart optimism, there are some surprisingly large gaps between the reported sense of overall optimism and how satisfied consumers actually are about the factors that make up individual health and well-being.
Heart cells starved of nutrients are less likely to be damaged during periods of decreased blood flow and sudden influxes of blood, known as ischemia and reperfusion, and are also less likely to get out of synch with their cellular neighbors, the damaging phenomenon called arrhythmia.
Many studies have examined motor impairments using voxel-based lesion symptom mapping (VLSM), but few are reported regarding the corresponding relationship between cerebral cortex injury and lower limb motor impairment analyzed using this technique.
