NeHII, the Nebraska Health Information Initiative, a statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE) designed to share clinical and administrative data among providers in Nebraska, today announced its successful expansion to Central Nebraska. The physicians and medical staff of Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, serving the city of Hastings, are able to communicate electronically and exchange patient information with other hospitals and physicians throughout the state.
Huntington's disease is caused by a mutation in the Huntington's disease gene, but it has long been a mystery why some people with the exact same mutation get the disease more severely and earlier than others. A closer look at the DNA around the Huntington's disease (HD) gene offers researchers a new understanding of how the gene is controlled and how this affects the disease.
A stem cell-based method created by University of California, Irvine scientists can selectively target and kill cancerous tissue while preventing some of the toxic side effects of chemotherapy by treating the disease in a more localized way.
In an effort to develop strategies for breast health awareness in rural populations researchers asked the question, "What message strategies will motivate Appalachian women to attend to breast health issues and become actively involved in their own breast health?"
In a Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology review article Norbert Stefan from the German Center for Diabetes Research, the University Hospital of Tübingen and the Boston Children's Hospital, highlights why and to what extent a large hip circumference, an estimate of increased fat mass in the lower part of the body, protects from type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
