Boston University (BU) on Monday launched a five-year, $10 million global health initiative that aims to "bolster research and education" and "build a nationwide consortium of universities devoted to improving health in the Third World," the Boston Globe reports.
The shift in payment strategy will reward hospitals for the quality, rather than the quantity, of care they provide. The change was set in motion by the health law.
The American College of Chest Physicians recently released a new clinical guideline, Screening for Lung Cancer: CHEST Guideline and Expert Panel Report.
Researchers from Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) have found that when attempting to pass tanning bed legislation, successful advocates collaborate with local and national organizations and lobbyists and have direct contact with the sponsoring legislator to aid in the passage of the bill. These findings, which appear on-line in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, also identify strong lobbying efforts by the tanning bed industry as the biggest barrier to passing tanning bed legislation.
