In people with high cholesterol levels, the fat that is built up in the artery walls narrows the arteries causing a condition called atherosclerosis. A study published on 19th June in the European Heart Journal has found the likelihood of a vaccine that can immunize humans having atherosclerosis, subsequent to successful outcomes in a mouse model study. At present, phase I clinical trial has begun in patients to see the possibility of translating the study findings to humans.
The cure for cancer is one step closer this week with the first collections of cancer tissue taking place at the new Wesley Research Institute Tissue Bank.
Researchers from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, in collaboration with several other institutions, have discovered a genetic defect linked to Biliary atresia, the most common pediatric cause of end-stage liver disease, and the leading indication for liver transplantation in children.
Human breast tumors transplanted into mice are excellent models of metastatic cancer and are providing insights into how to attack breast cancers that no longer respond to the drugs used to treat them, according to research from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
