A collaboration of researchers from 120 different institutes across 30 countries including France, Germany, Australia, Japan, USA, India, Turkey, Brazil, and Canada initiated an effort to develop a COVID-19 Disease Map - a collection of computational models and diagrams of molecular mechanisms implicated in COVID-19.
Kaiser Health News staff writer Jay Hancock, working in collaboration with USA Today, reports: "Congratulations. You bought insurance through one of the online Affordable Care Act exchanges, possibly after days or weeks of trying to get the site to work. Don't relax. Joining the plan is only the first challenge. Now you have to understand it. Policies sold through the online portals - to more than 3 million people so far - cover essential benefits and put a cap on your out-of-pocket medical costs. But you need to follow the rules" (Hancock, 2/17).
The U.S. government's Medicare program has ordered three health insurers Universal American Corp. (UAM), Health Net Inc. (HNT) and Arcadian Health to stop marketing to and enrolling new members in their Medicare Advantage health and prescription-drug plans, saying the companies violated regulations.
Costs for all types of medical plans are expected to increase by 9.9 percent in 2012, according to a survey by Buck Consultants, a division of Xerox. This is the first time since 2001 that the survey has projected cost increases less than 10 percent for any type of plan, so a 9.9 percent increase can almost be seen as a victory.
