A clinical trial being conducted at the University of British Columbia, sponsored by Active-O, is currently recruiting patients suffering from lower back pain caused by a contained herniated disc to investigate a new, non-surgical treatment.
A closed-loop acoustic stimulation brainwave technology significantly reduced symptoms in people suffering from post-traumatic stress in a small pilot study conducted at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The study is published in the April 19 online edition of the journal BMC Psychiatry.
A new study links ADHD and conduct disorder in young adolescents with increased alcohol and tobacco use. The Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center study is among the first to assess such an association in this age group.
Older adults with insomnia could benefit from computerized cognitive training, which researchers have found helps in the initiation and maintenance of sleep.
A new network dedicated to advancing research and therapies for stroke is forming in Chicago thanks to $2 million in grants from the National Institutes of Health. The Chicago Stroke Trials Consortium is a partnership among Northwestern Medicine, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, Loyola University Medical Center, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Rush University Medical Center, and University of Chicago Medicine that will build an infrastructure to support clinical trials for stroke prevention, treatment and recovery. Northwestern University will be the regional coordinating center for the consortium and administer the project over the next five years.
