A study published in the August issue of Cancer Research has resulted in several premature and potentially misleading conclusions when it comes to fructose and its effect on pancreatic tumor cells. Unfortunately, the media covering this story, and even the authors, have been too quick to extrapolate the results of laboratory research on pure fructose to real-world conditions, which is not appropriate or helpful to consumers.
A German case study recently published in the journal Nature Communications has characterized a long-term severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection dynamics in an immunosuppressed kidney transplant recipient and provided evidence for the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 into potentially harmful immune escape mutants during persistent infections.
Italian and Spanish scientists studying the use of stem cells for treating spinal cord injuries have provided the first evidence to show that meninges, the membrane which envelops the central nervous system, is a potential source of self-renewing stem cells.
Breathing during sleep is often impaired in patients with atrial fibrillation.
