A new program aimed at improving patient safety and quality care has been launched at McGill University Health Centre hospitals. The program, which is being conducted in collaboration with Vendorlink.ca, is the first of its kind in a large academic Quebec hospital.
Infections with a certain type of bacteria (group B streptococcus) can lead to severe, sometimes life-threatening, infections in newborn infants.
A large multicentre trial seems finally to have resolved one of IVF's long-running controversies - whether the outlook for women with a poor IVF record can be improved by routine hysteroscopy performed before further IVF treatment.
One of the largest medical research grants ever awarded to the University of Missouri was announced today by MU scientists and administrators. The National Institutes of Health grant will help answer important questions about such prevalent health problems as high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke. The conditions are closely associated with cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death in Missouri and the nation.
A phase 3 trial of brentuximab vedotin (BV), the first new drug for Hodgkin lymphoma in over 30 years, shows that adults with hard-to-treat Hodgkin lymphoma given BV immediately after stem cell transplant survived without the disease progressing for twice as long as those given placebo (43 months vs 24 months).
