The Special Committee of Independent Directors of Patheon Inc. today announced that Lonza Group AG ("Lonza") has withdrawn its previously announced non-binding proposal to acquire all of the outstanding restricted voting shares of the Company. In addition, the Special Committee and Lonza have mutually agreed to terminate discussions regarding other possible strategic transactions between Lonza and Patheon.
To reduce the toxicity of cigarette smoke, tobacco companies have introduced "harm reduction cigarettes," often marketed as safer than conventional brands.
Participants are being enrolled in the first clinical trial that tests the use of retinal progenitor cells to treat retinitis pigmentosa, reported project director Dr. Henry Klassen of UCI's Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center. The product of stem cell research at UCI, these retinal progenitors are similar to stem cells in terms of potential regenerative properties, but they're specific to the retina.
"The health issues facing American Indians in the [U.S.] make them the most at-risk minority in the country, and yet, the Indian Health Service receives only 55% of the funds it needs," Fargo Forum columnist Peter Bresko writes in an opinion piece. He adds that IHS "desperately needs" the $1 billion annual increase in funding proposed under the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (S 1200).
"Police and regulators around the world have closed 18,000 online pharmacy sites in the past few days, in the largest ever clampdown on criminal gangs selling unauthorized medicines online," the Financial Times reports.
