Which wound cuts deeper: the loss of an only child or loss of a spouse? A new study led by researchers at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing and Fudan University suggests that Chinese parents find the loss of an only child to be approximately 1.3 times as psychologically distressing than the loss of a spouse. The findings are published in the journal Aging & Mental Health.
In the past, when government leaders, policymakers and scholars have turned their attention to peace and security issues, the talk invariably has focused on war, arms control or anti-terrorism strategies. But Julian Palmore believes it's time to expand the scope of the conversation.
"Aid workers say malnutrition rates among children under five at the Dolo Ado camp [in Ethiopia] are alarming," with "[o]ver 50 percent of children in Dolo Ado's Hilaweyn camp and nearly half of all children in Kobe camp … suffering from malnutrition, according to a preliminary health survey from the United Nations refugee agency," Agence France-Presse reports.
The Department of Justice takes the position that the Florida judge's ruling in which he threw out the health law is "indefensible."
