Perrigo Company today announced that it was the first to receive final approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its abbreviated new drug application for ibuprofen and phenylephrine hydrochloride tablets, 200 mg/10 mg (over-the-counter), the store brand equivalent to Advil Congestion Relief Tablets, 200 mg/10 mg.
At the London launch of a Lancet series on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) on Monday, U.N. Development Programme Administrator Helen Clark said if NCDs are placed "permanently on the global development agenda, people's lives, opportunities, and future prospects will improve - thereby advancing sustainable human development overall," Devex's "Development Newswire" blog reports.
"There is no doubt that" a 10 percent reduction in funding from donor governments for the AIDS response in low- and middle-income countries in 2010 from the previous year's levels "is linked to economic strain felt by countries across the globe," a VOA News editorial says.
In response to Michael Gerson's November 11 column in which he said the end of AIDS is possible because of combination prevention and treatment innovations, David Bryden, the Stop TB advocacy officer at RESULTS, writes in a Washington Post letter to the editor, "Another benefit of [HIV] treatment is that it sharply reduces deaths from tuberculosis [TB], which is the primary killer of people living with HIV/AIDS."
