In good news for patients with stubborn cases of ulcerative colitis, a serious intestinal disorder, a new research review suggests that the drug infliximab can be a useful alternative if other treatments don't work.
Mum-of-two Flora Skeates says she owes her life to cancer research after surviving bowel cancer twice within two years. That is why she is representing Cancer Research UK in a stunning new photographic exhibition to encourage people to remember the charity in their Will.
Researchers from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) determined that patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) who consumed more than 308 mg of caffeine daily had milder liver fibrosis. The daily amount of caffeine intake found to be beneficial is equivalent to 2.25 cups of regular coffee.
In the NCI-sponsored Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT), initial findings from a decade ago showed that the drug finasteride significantly reduced the risk of prostate cancer, but among those who did develop prostate cancer, paradoxically, the drug was associated with an increased risk of high-grade disease.
Mindray Medical International Limited, a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices worldwide, today announced that it will introduce the new DC-8 ultrasound system at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) annual meeting being held in San Diego, May 5-9, 2012.
