Exposure to childhood maltreatment increases the risk for most psychiatric disorders as well as many negative consequences of these conditions. This new study, by Dr. Gustavo Turecki and colleagues at McGill University, Canada, provides important insight into one of the most extreme outcomes, suicide.
CNN: "Interruptions in the emergency room may exact an unhealthy toll on patient care, a group of Australian researchers reported Thursday. The researchers, from the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales, found that interruptions led emergency department doctors to spend less time on the tasks they were working on and, in nearly a fifth of cases, to give up on the task altogether.
A journal that tracks philanthropy and giving has published information about contributions made by medical companies to health related nonprofits following a request for similar information by a lawmaker.
A research team, co-headed by Dr. Woo Lee and Dr. Hongjun Wang of Stevens Institute of Technology, has published a paper describing a new method that generates three-dimensional tissue models for studying bacterial infection of orthopedic implants. Dr. Joung-Hyun Lee of Stevens, and Dr. Jeffrey Kaplan of the New Jersey Dental School, are co-authors of the research.
Quest Diagnostics Incorporated today announced that it had agreed to repurchase at a negotiated price 15.4 million shares of its common stock from its largest shareholder, an affiliate of GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK). Subsequent to the transaction, GSK will no longer hold any shares of common stock of Quest Diagnostics.
