The sedative drugs diazepam (Valium) and lorazepam (Ativan) are equally effective in treating the prolonged seizures known as status epilepticus in children, according to a randomized, controlled study by a multi-institution team of researchers with the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network, including an expert from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Kevin Empey, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health and Dr. Robert Bell, CEO of the University Health Network are proud to announce the shared management of LH's Laboratory Services with those of UHN. UHN's laboratory currently manages all services for Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto General Hospital, and 13 other hospitals. Laboratory services will continue to be provided in the LH laboratory while being managed by UHN administrative, clinical, and quality experts.
According to a nonprofit research organization in the United States not all sunscreens offer adequate protection from the sun's harmful rays and some can in fact harm the skin.
Cancer cells tend to take up more glucose than healthy cells, and researchers are increasingly interested in exploiting this tendency with drugs that target cancer cells' altered metabolism.
