The benefits of using insulin to treat diabetes far outweigh the risks, but a review just published online by IJCP, the International Journal of Clinical Practice, suggests that commonly used diabetes therapies may differ from each other when it comes to their influence on cancer risk.
Sorin Group, a global medical device company and a leader in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, announced today the U.S. commercial launch of the Mitroflow Valsalva Conduit, the only Valsalva conduit graft approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in combination with an aortic tissue valve.
Hospitals and other systems in the Baltimore area are "buying practices, forming management agreements or structuring joint ventures with primary care practices that cannot afford to buy necessary electronic health records systems, hire more support staff or add another physician" in a bid to consolidate primary care in the area and lower overhead, the Baltimore Business Journal reports. For many doctors, the cost of doing business in a small, office-based setting is becoming prohibitive.
The statistic that you often hear is that 95% of diets fail, but in actual fact, emerging research is now showing that it's around 70% of diets that fail. That means that around 30% of people who are losing weight are actually keeping it off. So we're doing better now than we were doing in the past, but there's still work to be done.
Approximately one in nine people sent to Florida emergency rooms (ERs) for injuries caused by acts of intentional violence - including shootings, stabbings, assaults, etc. - in 2010 ended up being violently injured again within two years.
