Two articles published in the May-June issue of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics survey the recent evidence which is available for the psychotherapy of schizophrenia.
OneLegacy, the non-profit, federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery agency serving the seven-country greater Los Angeles area, today issued the following statement: "Kim Pham, the 23-year-old woman who died from her injuries after being assaulted outside a Santa Ana nightclub on Jan. 18, saved five lives through the donation of her heart, kidneys, lungs, pancreas and liver to patients on the national organ transplant waiting list.
By studying the roles two proteins, thrombospondin-1 and prosaposin, play in discouraging cancer metastasis, a trans-Atlantic research team has identified a five-amino acid fragment of prosaposin that significantly reduces metastatic spread in mouse models of prostate, breast and lung cancer.
The National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced a pilot program under which "three pharmaceutical companies have agreed to make dozens of their failed compounds available to researchers, who will investigate if the compounds can be re-purposed into successful treatments for other diseases," Ashley Bennett, senior policy associate at the Global Health Technologies Coalition (GHTC), writes in the group's "Breakthroughs" blog.
