The birth of a baby is usually a joyous event, but when a child is born too early, worrisome complications can occur, including serious health problems for the baby and steep medical bills for the family. To address this, Johns Hopkins graduate students and their faculty adviser have invented a new system to pick up very early signs that a woman is going into labor too soon.
Broadlane, the leading end-to-end cost-management partner for healthcare providers, announced today that New Hanover Regional Medical Center, in Wilmington, North Carolina, has renewed its supply chain relationship with Broadlane for another five years. IRIN this week published two articles examining the humanitarian response to the Sahel food crisis, which "put an estimated 18.7 million people at risk of hunger and 1.1 million children at risk of severe malnutrition."
State public health departments do not necessarily lose funding when merged with larger Medicaid programs, according to a just-released study. The findings from this first-of-a-kind research should help allay concerns that when such mergers occur they automatically lead to cutbacks in public health, says lead author Paula Lantz, PhD, who is chair of the Department of Health Policy at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services (SPHHS).
