Brazil, China, India and South Africa, which together account for nearly half of all new tuberculosis (TB) cases, offer "tremendous opportunities" for new diagnostics due to their commitment to fight the disease at a time when investments in new technologies are on the increase, according to a new report from FIND, McGill International TB Centre, and UNITAID.
A group led by Dr. Dieter Br-mme at the University of British Columbia has demonstrated that glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) contribute to skeletal abnormalities in patients with lysosomal storage diseases. Their report can be found in the November 2009 issue of The American Journal of Pathology.
Spherix Incorporated (the "Company") today announced that it has closed a private placement of common stock and warrants and terminated the private offering.
"At least four million Americans under age 65 are exposed to high doses of radiation each year from medical imaging tests, according to a new study in The New England Journal of Medicine," The New York Times reports. And about ten percent of those patients "receive very high doses, more than the maximum annual exposure allowed for nuclear power plant employees or anyone else who works with radioactive material." The study was based on a survey of nearly one million patients insured by UnitedHealthcare.
In this month's premier open access medical journal PLoS Medicine, John Danesh and colleagues from the University of Cambridge, along with investigators from the Icelandic Heart Association, report the single largest prospective study addressing the role of uric acid in heart disease.
