Whitehead Institute researchers have identified the pre-mouth array-an area of the developing face in embryonic frogs-that "unzips" to surround the mouth opening. Their work highlights the precision necessary to create the mouth and identifies the cellular mechanisms that drive its formation.
ImmunoCellular Therapeutics announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted orphan drug designation for ICT-107, the company's dendritic cell-based cancer vaccine candidate which targets glioblastoma multiforme. As a result of the orphan drug status, ImmunoCellular will be eligible to receive a number of benefits, including access to grant funding for clinical trials, tax credits, accelerated FDA approval and allowance for marketing exclusivity after drug approval for a period of up to seven years.
The "gateway pattern" of adolescent substance use is changing, and marijuana is increasingly the first substance in the sequence of adolescent drug use, according researchers at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
While the HIV prevalence in China remains low, the situation in several provinces affected by drug trafficking and illegal blood donations is serious, senior HIV/AIDS control officials said on Saturday, Xinhua/China Daily reports.
