BrainCool AB, a Swedish medical device innovator, and a world leader in medical cooling technology for therapeutic hypothermia (brain cooling) and oncology, is pleased to announce that it has completed patient recruitment in the Scandinavian multi-center pivotal trial of 180 patients to investigate the patented Cooral® System for prevention of Oral Mucositis, one of the most debilitating side-effects of both standard and high-dose chemotherapeutic oncology treatments.
Oncolytics Biotech Inc. announced that a poster presentation covering updated results of a Phase II study of REOLYSIN(R) administered intravenously to patients with sarcomas metastatic to the lung will be presented at the 15th Annual Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS) Meeting being held in Miami Beach, Florida on November 6th, 2009.
Medical researchers at the University of Bonn, working in collaboration with scientists from Israel, the USA and Britain, have identified a previously unknown regulatory mechanism in the process of bone loss. Their findings could open up new approaches to the treatment of osteoporosis.
A new Viewpoint article in The Journal of the American Medical Association questions whether the notion of the community hospital as a sanctuary from violence may have become too quaint. The fatal shooting death of a Boston surgeon Jan. 20, 2015, the authors note, was another in what appears to be an increasingly frequent series of "active shooter" incidents in U.S. health care facilities.
