Leading interventional cardiologists at The Mount Sinai Hospital are the first in the world to use a newly U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved device for the treatment of severely calcified coronary arteries before the placement of a cardiac stent to open a blocked artery.
New HIV infections in the United States could be substantially reduced by up to 67 percent by 2030 if ambitious goals for HIV care and treatment are met and targeted prevention interventions for people at risk for HIV are rapidly scaled up, according to a study by Georgia State University and the University at Albany-SUNY.
A phase 3 trial of brentuximab vedotin (BV), the first new drug for Hodgkin lymphoma in over 30 years, shows that adults with hard-to-treat Hodgkin lymphoma given BV immediately after stem cell transplant survived without the disease progressing for twice as long as those given placebo (43 months vs 24 months).
A new shock classification scheme released by the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and endorsed by the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons was recently applied in a retrospective study analyzing patients in the cardiac intensive care unit at the Mayo Clinic.
