In an aging society, one of the most important and urgent tasks of scientific research is to counteract the decline in motor function and muscle weakness that accompanies the aging process.

High-level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) taking place this week in New York "are controversial, including those relating to intellectual property rights for new medicines, diagnostics and medical devices," James Love, director of Knowledge Ecology International, writes in an Al Jazeera opinion piece.
Although the risk patterns that favor the expansion of HIV are very widespread, the majority of the countries of Latin America have still not faced a large-scale AIDS epidemic, according to a publication by the Pan American Health Organization and the World Bank.
The widely prescribed statin, simvastatin, can medically help patients with secondary progressive Multiple Sclerosis - for reasons that might be unrelated to the drug's intended cholesterol lowering affects, a UCL study has found.
