A University of Colorado School of Medicine researcher, hoping to find the cause of preeclampsia in pregnant women, won a $100,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Thursday which funds innovative global health and development projects.
This has become an especially rough-and-tumble time for Karen Ignagni, the health industry's chief lobbyist. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has denounced insurers as "villains," and President Obama has criticized the industry for its "windfall profits." Earlier this year, Ignagni pledged to work with Obama and Congress to pass major health care legislation this year, but relations have cooled as the White House and congressional Democrats have begun citing the industry's practices as a top reason to pass an overhaul of the nation's health care system.
NJIT Research Architect B. Lynn Hutchings believes that by making a few practical, effective and relatively inexpensive changes to school buildings, they can become better environments for students with severe physical, intellectual, and sensory disabilities.
Almost 1 million extra deaths relating to the covid-19 pandemic occurred in 29 high income countries in 2020, finds a study published by The BMJ today.
