A Johns Hopkins Children's Center survey of 102 clinicians who treat teenage girls with pelvic inflammatory disease has found that official guidelines designed to inform decisions about hospitalization versus outpatient care leave some clinicians scratching their heads.
The world might seem a little grayer than usual when we're down in the dumps and we often talk about "feeling blue" - new research suggests that the associations we make between emotion and color go beyond mere metaphor.
Patients with diabetes who stopped taking aspirin three months after the insertion of a coronary stent and then took the anti-platelet medication ticagrelor alone for a year had fewer episodes of bleeding and no increase in heart attacks, stroke or other adverse events caused by blockages in the arteries, compared with patients who took both aspirin and ticagrelor for a year.
Two to three in every 1,000 children are born with a hearing loss that is likely to impact development. Research of the auditory system at its early developmental stages, and efforts to identify hearing loss and initiate appropriate rehabilitation strategies, can be crucial to the healthy development of a child.
Anacor Pharmaceuticals today announced that it has signed a research agreement with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (the Gates Foundation) to discover drug candidates intended to treat two filarial worm diseases (onchocerciasis, or river blindness, and lymphatic filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis) and tuberculosis.
