For the first time scientists from Umeå University show the importance of DNA damage in fine tuning of our innate immune system and hence the ability to mount the optimal inflammatory response to infections and other biological dangers.
PTC Therapeutics, Inc. (PTC) today announced the completion of a $50 million financing. The round was led by The Column Group - a new investor - and existing investor Delphi Ventures. The co-lead investors were joined by current investors Credit Suisse First Boston, HBM BioVentures, Novo A/S, Celgene, and other existing and new investors. In conjunction with the Delphi investment, general partner Deepa Pakianathan, Ph.D. will join PTC's Board of Directors.
The Food and Drug Administration may eliminate a program that allows medical devices to be approved quickly because of concerns the program is overused, The Wall Street Journal reports. An internal FDA memo proposes the elimination or tightening of the "fast track" as officials question the use of private, third-party companies "hired by device makers to pre-review products.
A groundbreaking new treatment for obesity is to begin clinical trials in January. Madrona Ventures Inc., an American publicly listed company (OTCBB:MDRV), has acquired the treatment's European patent and the pending American patent application.
