Frogs place in culture ranges from the wise, to the prince in disguise. But it's the idea that a frog can produce life-saving medicine that's currently the subject of an international research project involving Professor Chris Shaw and colleagues at Queen's University Belfast, in Northern Ireland. They have discovered proteins in frog skins that could be used to treat cancer, diabetes, strokes and transplant patients by regulating the growth of blood vessels.
This PATH Blog post examines PATH's work in malaria through OneWorld Health, a non-profit drug development program. Since 2004, "when OneWorld Health formed a partnership to develop an alternative source of the malaria drug artemisinin, ... OneWorld Health, which became an affiliate of PATH late last year, has quietly forged relationships with public and private partners, creating the Artemisinin Project to take the work from research to commercialization," the blog writes.
A programme funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation may have saved around 600,000 people in India from becoming infected with HIV over the course of a decade, according to a new report.
Hospira, Inc., a global specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company, today announced the successful completion of the tender offer by Discus Acquisition Corporation, a wholly owned Hospira subsidiary, to purchase all outstanding shares of the common stock of Javelin Pharmaceuticals, Inc..
