Scientists are reporting development of three promising formulations that could be used in a vaccine to treat methamphetamine addiction - one of the most serious drug abuse problems in the U.S. The report appears in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
The Wall Street Journal examines how "some local social entrepreneurs are coming up with new ideas to provide the poor with access to better medical services" in Pakistan, where the health care system is "split between low-cost government-funded hospitals offering basic services and expensive private-sector medical institutions ... but the majority of the country's 190 million people have little access to health care."
New research led by Wyss Core Faculty member David Mooney, Ph.D., in collaboration with researchers at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute could potentially yield a new platform for cancer vaccines. Leveraging a biologically inspired sponge-like gel called "cryogel" as an injectable biomaterial, the vaccine delivers patient-specific tumor cells together with immune-stimulating biomolecules to enhance the body's attack againstcancer.
