The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to eat raw or partially cooked oysters and clams (shellfish) with tags listing Oyster Bay Harbor, in Nassau County, N.Y., as the harvest area, following illnesses reported in several states caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus bacteria.
People with lower incomes are less likely to present at a hospital within 3 hours of stroke symptoms and thus have lower rates of thrombolysis therapy or post-stroke care than their more affluent counterparts, according to a retrospective analysis.
Scientists from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore have established that collagen derived from fish scales could be effective for various biomedical applications such as wound healing.
Jiayuh Lin, PhD, and colleagues at Nationwide Children's Hospital have developed a drug to target the most common cancerous bone tumor in children, osteosarcoma, using a version of the FDA-approved drug, Celebrex. The team will soon begin testing the drug using human and canine tumor cell lines thanks to a two-year, $200,000 grant from Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.
