Kaiser Permanente recently was honored by IDG's CIO magazine as one of the 2015 CIO 100 award winners for using technology to improve the health care experience for patients and their families.
Adult ICU patients who received tracheotomy 6 to 8 days vs. 13 to 15 days after mechanical ventilation did not have a significant reduction in the risk of ventilator-associated pneumonia, according to a study in the April 21 issue of JAMA.
Recently, a research team led by Dr. DU Xuemin at the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences created a new shape-morphing scaffold, enabling programmed deformation from a 2D planar cell-laden structure to a well-defined 3D tubular shape, which facilitated the facile 3D endothelialization of small-diameter vascular grafts.
In what could be a pivotal step toward repairing non-healing wounds and damaged organs, a Drexel University biomedical engineer has identified an immune cell as a potential strategy for growing blood vessels.
