In this post on the Global Health Technologies Coalition's (GHTC) "Breakthroughs" blog, GHTC Senior Policy Associate Ashley Bennett reviews recent action "on the federal budget and other pieces of legislation that could have implications for global health research and development (R&D)" and discusses "what the next several weeks could bring."
Scientists at Helmholtz Zentrum München have now discovered how Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) conceals itself in human cells. A main culprit for its bad visibility by the immune system is the viral protein LMP2A. As published in the scientific journal PLOS Pathogens, the protein helps EBV-infected cells hide from T cells. This camouflage through the LMP2A protein may play a major role in the causation of cancer by EBV.
A team led by Nicolas Bazan, MD, PhD, Boyd Professor and Director of LSU Health New Orleans' Neuroscience Center of Excellence, has developed neuroprotective compounds that may prevent the development of epilepsy.
GNA Biosolutions GmbH will be showcasing the Pharos V8, the world's first Laser PCR instrument based on the company's proprietary Pulse Controlled Amplification technology at the Analytica trade fair in Munich, Germany from April 10-13.
