Britain's Health Protection Agency is warning that lead poisoning in children may be a bigger public health issue in the UK than is currently appreciated, and more research needs to be done to establish the exact threat.
A new nut and blood lipid study published on May 10, 2010, in Archives of Internal Medicine, led by Dr. Joan Sabate and colleagues at Loma Linda University (Loma Linda, Calif.), confirms that eating nuts, like pistachios, have a total and LDL (bad)-cholesterol-lowering effect, supporting the evidence that regular nut consumption can lower the risk of coronary heart disease.
Advaxis, Inc., a leader in developing the next generation of immunotherapies for cancer and infectious diseases, today announced the full exercise of the over-allotment option granted to the underwriters to purchase an additional 862,500 shares of its common stock and warrants to purchase an additional 431,250 shares (15% of the shares and warrants sold in this offering), at a public offering price of $4.00 per share and $0.001 per warrant, respectively, in connection with its previously announced underwritten public offering of 5,750,000 shares of common stock, and warrants to purchase up to an aggregate of 2,875,000 shares of common stock, bringing the total gross proceeds from the offering to approximately $26,500,000, before deducting underwriting discounts and commissions and other offering expenses payable by Advaxis, Inc.
The FDA today issued warning letters to three companies that manufacture and market mouth rinse products with claims that they remove plaque above the gum line or promote healthy gums. These claims suggest the products are effective in preventing gum disease when no such benefit has been demonstrated.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has published "Standards and Operational Guidance for Ethics Review of Health-Related Research with Human Participants," a compilation of 10 standards for ethics review of health related research with human participants.
