Millennium Laboratories, Inc., a leading provider of therapeutic drug monitoring and education to physicians and staff treating chronic pain patients, today announced the company's support for a recent decision by the Florida Pain Management Clinic Standards of Practice Joint Committee to amend draft regulatory language related to the certification of clinical laboratories providing services to pain physicians operating in the state.
In a novel method to uncover illegal urban cannabis plantations nearly 30,000 Dutch households are to receive marijuana-scented scratch cards. According to authorities in Rotterdam and The Hague they are distributing the cards to help people recognize what cannabis smells like.
A new report suggests that improved health care and significant reductions in drug costs might be attained by breaking up the age-old relationship between physicians and drug company representatives who promote the newest, more costly and often unnecessary prescription drugs.
Age alone should not determine surgical risk in a person age 80 or over, according to expert commentary from Mark Katlic, M.D., director of Thoracic Surgery at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Dr. Katlic's commentary complements a McGill University Health Science Center trend study, appearing in this week's edition of the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ). The study finds an increase in coronary artery bypass grafts (CABGs) and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) with better results in people previously believed to be too old for these procedures.
Learning to crawl comes naturally for most infants, but those with cerebral palsy lack the muscle strength and coordination to perform the 25 individual movements required for crawling. With a $1.135 million, three-year grant from the National Science Foundation's National Robotics Initiative, University of Oklahoma researchers from the Norman and Health Sciences Center campuses are combining robotics, machine learning and brain imaging to assist infants with CP with the challenging, life-altering skill.
