Major League Baseball players are putting their bats to work once again to help strike out prostate cancer as part of the Prostate Cancer Foundation's 14th Annual Home Run Challenge. The Home Run Challenge, a partnership between the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association, begins today and runs through Father's Day, June 20, 2010.
Multiple strains of the flu virus, circulating in a population at the same time, can reshuffle their genes and create a new virus, one capable of infecting many more people, according to a new study in the open-access journal PLoS Biology.
New research published today in the journal Pediatric Blood and Cancer shows how early cancer screening and surveillance in patients with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS) results in additional years of life, and is cost effective for third-party payers.
A report, published in the February issue of the American Journal of Nursing, underscores nurse and physicians' lack of knowledge about the indicators of human trafficking when they encounter a patient who is a victim of trafficking.
An artificial pancreas system that closely mimics the body's blood sugar control mechanism was able to maintain near-normal glucose levels without causing hypoglycemia in a small group of patients. The system, combining a blood glucose monitor and insulin pump technology with software that directs administration of insulin and the blood-sugar-raising hormone glucagon, was developed at Boston University.
