In a short correspondence paper recently uploaded to the Lancet by Ramanathan, Muthukumar et al. (May 19th, 2021) the affinity of labeled SARS-CoV-2 spike receptor-binding domain proteins sourced from each of these two variants of concern towards human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) recombinant proteins is investigated using microscale thermophoresis, confirming the enhanced affinity towards the receptor observed in other studies.

The investigation, which is now closed, was originally initiated as an informal investigation in 2006 and became formal in March 2007.
A pilot study into the use of near patient diagnostics in general practice, to help GPs and nurse practitioners prescribe antibiotics for chest infections more precisely, has won a national Public Health England Award.
The first analysis of the carbon footprint of surgical suites at three hospitals in the UK, Canada and the USA highlights that the choice of anesthetic gases used in surgery can be a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions from operating theaters.
