A tiny strand of molecules plays a role in how our arms and legs develop and grow - a finding that sheds light on perplexing bits of material once dismissed as genetic "junk," say scientists at the University of Florida and Harvard University.
A new oral targeted drug, idelalisib (GS-1101), has the potential to stave off the need for additional treatments for relapsed or treatment-resistant chronic lymphocytic leukemia, according to a study led in part by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute investigators.
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) continues to be the third leading cause of infant death, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), despite a decline in SIDS that is associated with a rise in safe-sleep practices for newborns and infants. A new study by Barbara M. Ostfeld, PhD and Thomas Hegyi, MD, professors in the Department of Pediatrics at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, has identified that more than 96 percent of infants who died of SIDS were exposed to known risk factors, among them sleeping on their side or stomach, or exposure to tobacco smoke, and that 78 percent of SIDS cases contained multiple risk factors.
The Center for Nutrition, Learning, and Memory, a collaboration between Abbott's nutrition businesses and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), announced today the inaugural funding recipients of the Center's annual research challenge.
Plymouth University has received funding in excess of £1.2M from the Higher Education Funding Council for England to support capital investment for teaching facilities in existing and proposed laboratories, at the headquarters of Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry (PUPSMD), Plymouth Science Park.
