In Texas, officials are investigating dentists for applying for reimbursement for procedures they say Medicaid doesn't cover. Also, cost and a dentist shortage in Virginia is negatively affecting dental care in that state.
A new study shows that having sexual intercourse regularly even in the senior years is the key to good health. It not only improves the feeling of wellbeing but also improves contentment with life, the researchers explain. The study results were published in the latest issue of the journal Sexual Medicine.
Siblings of people with autism show a similar pattern of brain activity to that seen in people with autism when looking at emotional facial expressions. The University of Cambridge researchers identified the reduced activity in a part of the brain associated with empathy and argue it may be a 'biomarker' for a familial risk of autism.
Research shows that 74% of the medical school population come from the highest three social classes, although just 38% of the working age population is from this background. Asian ethnic groups are under-represented in applicants to nursing courses, and there is evidence that black and ethnic minority applicants have difficulty in securing course places.
The link between influenza and serious heart conditions just grew stronger. A CDC study looking at more than 80,000 adult patients hospitalized with flu over eight seasons found that sudden, serious heart complications were common, occurring in 12% of patients, or 1 in 8.
