Recognizing the growing need to nurture the next generation of cancer researchers, Aflac has expanded its generous commitment to the American Association for Cancer Research by sponsoring the new AACR-Aflac Career Development Award for Pediatric Cancer Research, in addition to renewing its support for the AACR Associate Member Council and the AACR-Aflac Scholar-in-Training Awards, now in their 10th year.
Experts estimate more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's dementia. But a recent study, led by the University of Cincinnati, sheds new light on the disease and a highly debated new drug therapy.
The Memory and Aging Program at Butler Hospital, a member of Care New England and a major teaching affiliate of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, enrolled one of the initial participants in an international Alzheimer's disease (AD) prevention study.
Ohio State University researchers are working on developing a multi-purpose cancer drug that might one day scale back the number of medications some cancer patients need to take.
In a study of five diabetic patients with persistent macular edema, breathing supplemental oxygen for three months reduced fluid buildup and swelling in the macula and, in some cases, improved visual acuity. Researchers think the therapy could be used in conjunction with laser treatments that also improve oxygenation in the retina to provide long-term stability in these patients.
