Last summer, after a long career as a successful entrepreneur and a brief retirement, Richard Whitaker was helping to start another new company. Unfortunately, a serious health concern caused a couple of interruptions in his work on the new venture. One of Whitaker's heart valves wasn't working properly, which caused congestive heart failure and led to two hospitalizations within several months.
As an important supplier to the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, New England Biolabs is pleased to announce that the Sanger Institute will use New England Biolabs as one of its suppliers for next-generation sequencing library construction reagents.
The aim of this book is to present a concise yet instructive overview of the most common interventional and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. Although there exists a large amount of literature dealing with therapeutic endoscopy, this publication stands out for several reasons: To begin with, it has been written by a highly selected group of international experts who contribute their own tried and tested tips and tricks.
A new study from the University of Surrey, published today in the journal PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences), found that the daily rhythms of our genes are disrupted when sleep times shift.
Nursing students who had placements in UK hospitals observed that ward environments were not physically suited to caring for dementia patients and qualified nurses often felt out of their depth when trying to treat such patients. Nurses sometimes 'saw the disease, not the patient', students reported. As a result patients were not always treated with dignity and there were challenges to basic care such as nutrition.
